چکیده
In this work, an evaluation of the air two Italian industrial cities, Turin and Biella, has been performed to identify main sources affecting its quality evaluate evolution along 15 years. These cities are placed at border Po valley, one most polluted areas Europe, automotive textile industries have their economic sectors. The elemental analysis PM10 collected there in 2007 by ICP-MS ICP-AES. results urban activities soil/road dust resuspension as metals. Biella was overall less than Turin, probably because smaller size, traffic volume, lower number industries. However, limit value imposed European legislation for daily average mass concentration (50 μg m−3) frequently exceeded samples: 22% 50%, respectively Turin. specific toxic metals regulated never higher Cd (4 ng Pb (0.5 m−3), whereas it Ni (20 samples from only 5% those Biella. same way, risk analysis, using target hazard quotient (THQ), calculated children adult populations, did not reveal warning values. Only were concerning values found (median THQ = 4.9). Element concentrations showed a seasonal trend, with November December due combination stable atmospheric conditions strengthening anthropic (e.g., combustion heat generation). Finally, data amount Cd, Ni, atmosphere provided regional agency environmental protection (ARPA Piedmont) used follow these elements 2021 cities. significant reduction all considered sites (higher 50%), however maintaining variability observed 2007, during cold months summer.

The goal of air pollution reduction strategies in NJ is not merely to achieve regulatory compliance, but also to protect the public health of its citizens. It is therefore important to evaluate progress in ozone reduction by examining the extent to which health effects associated with ozone are being reduced. Previous studies have established an association between atmospheric ozone concentrati...

In 1996-97, Academy Natural Sciences, Philadelphia (ANSP) conducted a study of mercury levels in freshwater gamefish in New Jersey. A total of 258 fish samples from 30 water bodies were analyzed. These included single fillet samples of 58 largemouth bass, 58 chain pickerel and 109 large specimens of other commonly consumed species and 32 whole-body analysis of forage fish species. The results o...

The urban heat island effect is a critical factor for air quality management and public health in urbanized areas of New Jersey. This effect is related to an increase in temperatures in urban areas as compared to surrounding lower density rural sites. The overall goal of the project was to contribute to effective regional environmental management under conditions of climate change. The related ...

The question of the potential for exposure to inorganic arsenic in water through dermal contact is important when providing guidance about treatment options to private well owners. If dermal contact with the water is an exposure route of concern, then whole house treatment is required, while if only oral exposure is considered, then treatment at the kitchen tap will be sufficient. For this reas...
